Bird Charcuterie Feeder

With chilly fall and winter days ahead, here’s an idea for keeping the birds coming around your yard. It’s a charcuterie board of little bird tasties to fill their tummies when berries and such may be a little scarcer. We ladies made these at my mother-in-law’s 80th birthday and I thought I’d share the idea today so you can be getting some of these items ready for the colder season.

I purchased these cedar hanging bird feeders on Amazon. They have a removable plastic mesh bottom, perfect for allowing water to drain after a rain and easy to wash when they need a good cleaning.

Ideas to add in your charcuterie include fresh berries, orange and apple slices, grapes, whole raw peanuts (unsalted), birdseed, dried mealworms, and suet. You can also use dried fruit if it’s soaked in water first. I added rosemary sprigs just for interest, but of course the birds won’t eat those.

The ball you see in the middle of the feeder that looks like a scoop of cookie dough is an easy recipe for suet I saw on White Cottage Company. You mix it in your kitchen mixer, store it in the fridge, and just take out what you need for your feeder every few days. The printable recipe is below!

I took this photo before I hung the feeder, but I have a shepherd’s staff hanger near our tree line that’s the perfect feeding area. Our little bird friends are such a joy to have around the yard and preparing these little feasts is just a small way I’m encouraging them to keep coming around with their playful flutters and sweet songs.

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26
